About your application to Hunter College

The Hunter Promise

Dear {#First Name#},

I regret to inform you that Hunter College cannot offer you admission for the {#Application Semester#} semester. After a careful review, it has been determined that your gross family income does not meet the New York State guidelines for SEEK eligibility.

Although you may be understandably disappointed with the College’s decision, I urge you to consider an alternative that may enable you to earn admission to Hunter in the future—the Hunter Promise.

What is the Hunter Promise?

If you satisfy the following three conditions, we guarantee your admission to Hunter College:

  1. Attend a community college within the City University of New York (CUNY) system.
  2. Maintain a cumulative grade-point average (GPA) of 2.5 or higher.
  3. Earn an Associate in Arts (AA) or an Associate in Science (AS) degree.

After you are officially admitted, you may begin advanced studies as a junior at Hunter with the knowledge that your first two years of study will be applied to a Hunter College baccalaureate degree.

Better yet, earn a grade of “A” in every course you take at your CUNY community college, and upon transferring with your AA or AS degree, Hunter will offer you a scholarship for a maximum of two years of full-time study. During this time you would be expected to complete your remaining baccalaureate coursework while maintaining a cumulative GPA of 3.2 or higher.

We sincerely hope that the Hunter Promise encourages you to enroll at one of the many fine community colleges of CUNY and to join us at Hunter College in the future.
